Our Setting

Lily RockThe Fern Valley Inn provides rustic mountain lodging in the mile-high village of Idyllwild in southern California. Surrounded by desert cities – Palm Springs, San Diego, and Los Angeles – Idyllwild is an oasis of cool mountain air and rustling pines. You’ll think you’re in Yosemite without the long drive.

Cozy fireplaces in every cottage. Fern Valley Inn reflects its surroundings with a serene, rustic charm. Our individually decorated cottages and rooms, all with wood-burning stoves or fireplaces, are nestled in the pines in a quiet residential area, far enough away from the village center to be extremely quiet, but close enough to walk (15 minutes) to shops and restaurants. We’re one of the closest inns to Humber Park, at the base of famous Lily Rock (8,000 feet), which is the epicenter of local outdoor activities: hiking (the Pacific Crest Trail is accessible a few miles northeast of the inn), rock climbing, mountain biking, birding, stargazing, and cross-country skiing in winter.

A scenic two-hour drive from the San Diego and Los Angeles metropolitan areas, or a one-hour drive from the Palm Springs desert valley transports you from “palms to pines,” to our San Jacinto mountain paradise.

It's all here! Nature at its very best, art galleries, live music (home of American Idol’s Casey Abrams), a quaint movie theatre (and film festival), shopping, wine tasting, and fabulous food, all served up with characteristic Idyllwild small-town friendliness. You’ll immediately feel like a local. And, like us, you’ll “love the hill.”

About the Inn

Fern Valley Inn GazeboFern Valley Inn has 10 cabins and cottages to choose from. The Inn dates back to 1950, and is one of the oldest lodging establishments on the hill.

The grounds are one of the Inn’s most charming features. With two gazebos (one for summer and one fully enclosed for cooler weather), meandering pathways, lovely trees, lilacs, and floral landscaping, wandering around the property is fun in itself.

We enjoy four distinct seasons at an elevation of 5,400 feet. When it’s 110 degrees in the desert, it will most likely be 75 degrees here. And if you have a craving for snow – maybe you want to have a white Christmas this year even though you live in Pasadena – we have it in abundance during the winter.
